UTAH COMMUNITY ACTION

  • Landlord – Tenant Mediation

This service assists with landlord/tenant education and tenant rights. This service may help maintain housing and avoid evictions but does not include any legal services or representation. If they have received a 3-day pay or vacate notice, they need to complete the online application.

Rental assistance program helps households that have experienced a temporary financial crisis beyond their control. Clients must have a current lease in place. They are unable to assist with mortgages, payments to roommates, or family. Payments are made directly to landlord or property management company only.

UTAH LEGAL SERVICES

Free legal assistance and representation:

HOLY CROSS MINISTRIES OF UTAH – IMMIGRATION SERVICES

Offer legal services for immigration, such as citizenship, status, deportation, visas and family law.

Housing Location

Assistance available for current clients staying at resource centers who need assistance locating and applying to rentals. Unfortunately, The Road Home can only assist individuals who have a current funding source (voucher).

  • If individual has a voucher: email housinglocators@theroadhome.org for assistance.
  • If they don’t have a voucher: refer to Rentler.com, zillow.com, ksl.com and Facebook marketplace. Encourage clients to seek resources through UCA (contact info listed under “eviction” and “rental assistance”)
  • If they are not a current TRH client, and they have a voucher through a local housing authority (HASLC or Housing Connect, refer them to that specific office).   
  • Contact VOA outreach team to determine if they are eligible for case management or SLCO triage.

Utility Assistance

UTAH COMMUNITY ACTION – Heat Program

Provides year-round assistance for paying power and gas bills. Must be income eligible (150% or less under federal poverty line).

SALVATION ARMY

Assists low income elderly, disabled, veterans, and families catch up on past due bills and avoid utility shut offs. To qualify for the program the household must be below the 150% federal poverty line.

Callers connected to the crisis line receive specialized, individualized support form certified crisis workers trained in suicide prevention, de-escalation, and stabilization and get connected to mental health resources. Has an option to be directed to their Veterans crisis line or a Spanish crisis line. They work closely with the Mobile Crisis Outreach Teams (MCOT) to provide in-person support and crisis intervention, if needed.

MOBILE CRISIS OUTREACH TEAM (MCOT)

For Utah residents who are in crisis and having a mental health challenge. MCOT teams will provide in-person support via licensed clinicians and peer support specialists. “MCOT is there for you when you are feeling lost, alone, having a difficult time coping with life, or have concerns related to a loved one living with you. Our team will meet you where you’re at.”

INTERMOUNTAIN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ACCESS CENTER – LDS HOSPITAL

Walk-in crisis center. Behavioral Health Access Centers operate similarly to an emergency room. They provide simple access to a medical screening exam and mental health evaluation. They can help someone for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, psychosis, mania, delusions, or substance use. The Rape Recovery Center offers services for survivors at all stages of the recovery process. Our providers include a specialized team of advocates who provide trauma-informed services at a no cost.

JOURNEY OF HOPE

They empower women and girls at-risk for further harm and incarceration — the homeless, the trafficked, those fleeing domestic violence, the addicted, the mentally ill, women transitioning from jail and prison, and girls aging out of state services. UTAH VINE SERVICE

VEHICLE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Vehicle Repair and Replacement Assistance Program (VRRAP), through the Salt Lake County Health Department,  provides financial assistance to low-income owners of vehicles that fail an emission test. Through VRRAP, qualifying low-income individuals will be offered financial assistance to either repair the vehicle (if model year 2004 or newer) or replace it with a newer, cleaner vehicle (if model year 2003 or older). HOMELESS YOUTH WALK-IN PROGRAM

Salt Lake County Youth Services provides emergency shelter, food and hygiene services, crisis counseling, and voluntary case management to youth up to 17.

YOUTH RESOURCE CENTER – VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA, UTAH

Serves homeless and at-risk youth, ages 15-22. Operates as a day shelter from 8:30am – 7:30pm, and then as a 30-bed overnight shelter after 7:30pm. Provides three hot meals a day, food pantry, showers, laundry, life-skill groups, housing and employment case management, dental and medical care assistance, and on-site mental health services. Bed reservation not required to receive services – all homeless and at-risk youth are invited to access services from 8:30am – 7:30pm.

Salt Lake County Youth Services provides services to young adults 18-21 experiencing homelessness. They offer referral services for housing assistance, supporting community connections, life skill workshops, job training skills, and connections to higher education.
